Nell Minow Common Sense Media Intriguing characters, good movie for older teens. Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Kimberley Jones Austin Chronicle Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 10, 2003 Full Review Globe and Mail Rated: 3/4 Mar 22, 2002 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The film may be the sharpest of all Hollywood satires, a comedy which recognizes the equally chaotic and creative process of filmmaking, while also offering a scathing perspective on a film's behind-the-scenes challenges. Rated: 4/4 Feb 14, 2022 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com A grand escalation of madness seems to be the idea here, but Mamet has difficulty getting to a point of insanity with a lukewarm sense of humor. Rated: C+ Aug 3, 2021 Full Review Jonah Koslofsky The Spool It's shockingly toothless stuff from the man behind Glengarry Glen Ross - nothing cuts as deep as it should. Audience Member A fun ensemble piece that satirizes the film industry. It shows the living organism that making a movie can be and the chaos that follows, no matter well prepared a production is. It's light, it's quirky and it's good time to pass an afternoon with. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/12/22 Full Review Audience Member I don't know who thought this movie was entertaining at all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/22/22 Full Review Audience Member One of the wittiest comedies of all time. Mamet is always witty, even at his most serious. Here he knows how to play serious in order to let the comedy speak for itself. Sarah Jessica Parker is the only one who tries too hard to be funny. Rebecca Pidgeon is, as always, engaging as hell. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Evan M Works on so many different levels. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Mamet is one of the best writers I've listened to.the film is equal to "The Front Page" in terms of snappy dialogue. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member An enormous top notch cast from William H. Macy to Alec Baldwin to Sarah Jessica Parker to Phillip Seymour Hoffman to Julia Styles to Clark Gregg. The small town of Waterford, Vermont is invaded by a Hollywood film crew. They're asking people to audition but not all of them are ready to give up these small time values. Most prefer not to live in the glitzy spotlight. The filmmakers themselves go through personal conflicts. They ask why they're there in the first place and if the movie can still work as a whole. This movie lampoons the industry with humor and wit. A funny enough parody of how a movie is supposed to get off the ground. Lots of corruption vanity and greed done in a humorous manner. Somewhat forgettable but clever.
