Biography

  • Aaron Neville is an R&B singer songwriter who has amassed a staggering 4 Platinum-certified albums to date, alongside four top ten hits in the US alone.

It all started when Neville release his debut single “Tell It Like It Is”, on a small New Orleans based record label. The single went on to top the Billboard R&B chart in 1967. It also made it to number 2 in the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and has since sold more than one million units, being certified gold.

Neville had a sporadic career in terms of success and the release of albums with the events in his career not following much of a routine, as he didn’t release his first album until 1985, which was named after the hit “Tell It Like It Is”. It was his third album “Warm Your Heart” that was the first to chart in the Billboard 200, making it to number 44. The song “Everybody Plays the Fool” made it to number 8 in the Hot 100, and number 1 in the US Adult Contemporary chart. His sequential album, “The Grand Tour”, released in 1993, was his most successful album, becoming a platinum record in the US.

Neville was a feature artist on an album released by Linda Ronstadt, entitled “Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind”, released in October 1989. The album has four duets with Neville, two of which earned Grammy Awards. It managed sales of over three million and was later certified Triple Platinum.

Neville recorded a tribute album called “Bring It on Home… The Soul Classics” which featured songs originally by Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke to name a few. It was released on September 19th 2006.

He has also earned a couple of film and TV accolades too in the form of singing the National Anthem in the motion picture, The Fan, which stars Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes.

  • Aaron Neville

One of the original pioneers of true R&B, Aaron Neville is certainly considered a legend in the music scene. The 73-year-old should be putting his feet up somewhere in a hot country, but instead is still performing his elegant songs regularly at concerts, showing that he is still youthful at heart.

Appearing at the KEXP studio based in Seattle, the presenter was singing Aaron's praises and with good reason. He went onto to sing 'This Magic Moment' as his opening song with just a keyboard player to accompany him, meaning there was nothing to distract the listener from his truly unique voice. Soothing yet powerful at the same time, Aaron effortlessly makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. His tone has a very natural essence to it and is incredibly pleasing to the ear. The following track, 'Ting A Ling', was certainly more upbeat and featured a blues-esque complicated riff from the keyboard player. The song was guaranteed to get anyone who was listening smiling and tapping the feet along to the catchy beat.

After a bit of back and fourth chat with the presenter and the performance of 'Pledging My Love', the R&B icon rounded off the set with the song 'Goodnight My Love', a particularly emotional number which gives the listener a sense of empathy for Aaron, who lost his wife to lung cancer in 2007. Although this wasn't a live performance in the sense that you can attend physically, it felt like you was in the room as the passion and raw sensation would certainly overwhelm anyone in ear shot.

  • When people talk about soul, one of the names that most always comes up is Aaron Neville. This man can sing! Hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, he is an American R&B and soul singer and musician. He has four platinum albums and four Top 20 hits three of which went to number 1 on the adult contemporary chart. The atmosphere in this venue this evening is like that of a church, a very divine feeling that you can feel in your bones upon entrance of this stunning theatre. He walks onstage with this big presence, ready to deliver to these adoring fans of his. “Somewhere Somebody” is the opening song. The song that shows off this fantastically beautiful vibrato, which are like waves of single notes that of tidal proportions bring this audience in with every note. He is one of those singers who can hold an audience with a single note, a single word. It’s just second nature for Neville. “Don’t Take Away My Heaven,” is the heartbreaking song of the set, some people in the audience are equipped with tissues. This powerhouse of a singer can make you feel good and make you feel upset he can make you feel all reflective and he can make the girls…

  • Louisiana singer/songwriter Aaron Neville is a true icon on the American soul genre and at 74 years old, it would seem R & B is keeping him young. As he has four platinum selling albums under his belt, there is a huge demand still there to see the performer live from fans of all ages.

There is apparently nothing Aaron enjoys more than stepping out onto stage supported by his hand selected band and playing a well chosen setlist for the crowds. He walks out looking like the luckiest man on earth with a huge smile from ear to ear as the opening notes to 'It's All Right' begin. He moves through a slick set of some of the finest soul and R & B with a total professionalism and allows every member of his band to shine with well designed instrumental solos. Playing some truly classic tracks of the genre including 'A Change is Gonna Come' by Sam Cooke and 'Amazing Grace' by John Newton this is a celebration of music as opposed to one performer. Aaron Neville is the perfect guy to lead you through this joyous evening of music.

  • Aaron gave the audience a wonderful evening of his unique style of romantic crooning. What a gentleman and classy entertainer!

Unfortunately the sound quality was poor - seemed he sang several songs with a bad microphone that was eventually swapped, and there was a persistent bad sounding speaker/resonance coming from the stage right speakers as Aaron exercised his wonderful range. Where were the sound board guys ?

  • Great concert, venue was as comfortable as a night club in Atlanta of the late "60's.

Best show of the fall season....the audience was a good as the performance. An out standing cross section of the diversity of NOLA and ATL.
