Common, Lin-Manuel Miranda commemorate 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s death

Celebrities took to social media to honor the legacy of civil rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination.

Rallies and marches are popping up across the country to commemorate King, who was shot and killed at the Lorraine Motel on April 4, 1968, while in Memphis to support black sanitation workers in a strike against poor working conditions and inadequate pay.

Rapper Common tweeted a series of photos of and quotes from King, reminding people that King was "only 39 years old" when he was murdered in 1968.

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda shared a video of a song dedicated to King, written by the Broadway star's elementary school teacher.

Samuel L. Jackson opened up in an essay for The Hollywood Reporter about being an usher at the civil rights leader's funeral in Atlanta when he was a sophomore at Morehouse College.
