Singing legend Engelbert Humperdinck is one of the first nine to be honoured
The first nine people to be honoured on Leicester's Walk of Fame have been announced by the city council.
The list includes Arian Mole creator Sue Townsend, singer Engelbert Humperdinck and snooker's Mark Selby.
The special plaques will be unveiled in Charles Street during the St. George's Day celebrations, on 24 April 2010.
Earlier in the year Leicester residents were asked to nominate individuals who they felt have made a positive impact on the city and its people.
A panel, consisting of Lord Mayor or Leicester Cllr Roger Blackmore, council leader Ross Willmott, and Cllr Patrick Kitterick, considered the 147 different nominations made by the public.
The other six Leicester heroes to be revealed are suffragette Alice Hawkins, playwright Joe Orton, socialist Tom Barclay, travel pioneer Thomas Cook, Olympic medal winner Jennie Fletcher, and architect Ernest Gimson.
More names are set to be added soon, including Gary Lineker, fashion guru Gok Wan and both David and Richard Attenborough.
The plaques will be in the shape of Leicester's famous cinquefoil flower emblem.
The Walk of Fame will be laid throughout the city's Cultural Quarter, eventually stretching all the way to Phoenix Square.
