The awesome power of Roberto Carlos opened up the floodgates for Brazil to swamp China in Seogwipo.

The Real Madrid full-back stifled China's confident start by firing Brazil ahead with a trademark free-kick of frightening power.

GRAPHIC ANALYSIS

It was a hammer blow from which China never recovered as Brazil ran riot to all but seal their berth in the last 16 with further goals from Rivaldo, Ronaldo and a Ronaldinho penalty.

World Cup newcomers China made a confident start and Qi Hong sprung from midfield to test Marcos with a 25-yard shot.

Wu Chengying showed his paces, first getting forward to ping in a good cross and then galloping back to quell the danger as Ronaldo moved on to Rivaldo's pass.

China showed far more passion and appetite than in their defeat by Costa Rica, but Roberto Carlos's left foot took the wind out of their sails on 14 minutes.

Ronaldinho was checked 25 yards out and Roberto Carlos unleashed a powerful drive to leave Jiang Jin groping.

The goal settled Brazil's nerves and they instilled some rhythm into their game with both full-backs confidently pushing on.

Cafu broke Li Tie's challenge all too easily but with Ronaldo unmarked square, he opted to shoot and brought a fine save from Jiang Jin.

Roberto Carlos hooked the ball across the Chinese goalmouth where Wu Chrengying did well to nick the cross away form the lurking Ronaldo.

The traffic was becoming increasingly one-way and it was no surprise when Brazil doubled their lead on 32 minutes.

Du Wei did superbly well to head Cafu's cross away from Ronaldo, but when Ronaldinho returned the ball in Rivaldo swept in his 30th international goal for Brazil.

There was some defending for Brazil to do at the start of the second-half, with Lucio cutting out a potentially dangerous cross.

But normal service was resumed as Brazil made it 4-0 on 54 minutes.

Cafu shrugged off two lightweight challenges to get to the by-line and square the for Ronaldo to stab home from close range.

Cafu should have made it five when he latched on to Juninho's pass but although his first touch took the ball past keeper Jiang Jin, Du Wei raced back to rob him on the goal-line.

China almost scored a deserved consolation on 61 minutes when Zhoa Junzhe struck a powerful shot against Marcos's left-hand post.
