Fencers Win IFCSC Championships for 12th Straight Season

PASADENA, Calif. - For the 12th consecutive year, the UC San Diego fencing team dominated its competition to win Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California (IFCSC) championships as the league titles were decided Saturday at Caltech.

UCSD's men and women topped Arizona State, Caltech, Pasadena City College, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA and USC to finish their conference seasons undefeated.

In the men's final overall season standings, the Tritons placed first and were followed by, in order, UCSB, CIT, UCI, UCLA, USC, ASU, PCC and UCR.

For the fourth straight season, UC San Diego's men went undefeated in epee, foil and saber.

Saturday, junior foilist Mitchell Shulman went 8-0 and had just two touches against him.

The women also took first in the season standings ahead of UCSB, ASU, UCLA, PCC, CIT, USC, UCI and UCR.

They were unbeaten in foil and saber over their 2015-16 conference campaign.

UC San Diego is next in action on Saturday, March 5, when it takes part in the NCAA West Regionals, hosted by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.
