Afghanistan: Floods in Herat kill three, including a child

Three people, including a child, were killed in floods in Herat province, the Taliban’s press department reported.

The floods struck regions that were previously affected by devastating earthquakes in October of last year.

According to the department, several families in the districts of Chasht-e Sharif, Ghorian, and Zawal have suffered financial losses.

This comes as a UN report on Friday noted that flash floods have killed over 200 people across Afghanistan.

Richard Bennett, the UN special rapporteur for Afghanistan, attributed the country’s vulnerability to the ongoing climate crisis.

Meanwhile, those affected by the floods expressed frustration over the lack of aid, stating they have not received any assistance. Political movements have criticized the Taliban’s failure to address the needs of vulnerable populations in the affected areas.
