The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename the first to Category:Fiction with multiple endings, delete the second. plicit 00:35, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Delete per WP:NONDEF. The existence of alternate endings in fiction or games is usually an interesting bit of trivia, if anything, perhaps a selling point, but doesn't define the work. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 00:27, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The two potential main articles we have in this category are Alternate ending and Types of fiction with multiple endings. So I think it makes sense to stick to one of those naming formats. But, it sounds like we're both OK with purging this one. (I updated my iVote above to formally endorse deleting the video game subcategory since I think alt endings are the norm in modern video games.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 03:14, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete subcategory only, for video games this is too common. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:16, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: There is consensus to delete the video games subcategory, but there is no consensus yet on what to do with the parent.

The result of the discussion was: keep. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 03:06, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: SMALLCAT. There is no parent category for the organization to merge to so Category:Pedophile advocacy is the best place. ★Trekker (talk) 17:38, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- Paedophile Information Exchange was a British organisation, one of whose members had an unrelated job in British Home Office, making it appear to be officially sponsored (which it was not). I know that we like a minimum of five articles (and here only have four), but I am reluctant to merge a British category into a worldwide one. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:28, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Shinto shrines by tradition. plicit 00:35, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename, this does not seem to concern different denominations in Shintoism, the subcategories are based on deities. Sort of WP:C2C per parent Category:Temples by deity. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:50, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle i tried to talk about this with WikiProject Japan and they were fairly insistent on the word Faith (信仰, shinkō), while i thought the word cult was better
not all of these shrines have a well defined deity associated with them, Category:Gokoku shrines is linked to a variety of deceased soldiers and Category:Gion shrines claim to be Susanoo shrines but their practices derive from a long history very different from conventional Susanoo shrines Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 15:35, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Shinto shrines dedicated to individuals. plicit 00:35, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, not a defining characteristic of the articles in the category. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:35, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looking over the shrines I think I agree with them. Most of them are no different than any other shrines dedicated to individuals except that they were created in the period of the Japanese Empire. The only one where the name actually makes sense is Draft:Hiko Shrine which is a draft, as it's dedicated to all people who die in aviation accidents.
I don't think we should delete it, but I think a good choice would be to take it out of the Gokoku shrine category, and rename it to something like Category:Shinto shrines dedicated to individuals, put it in Category:Shinto shrines by faith, put Category:Shrines dedicated to Empress Jingu into it, and remove Draft:Hiko Shrine from it.
Although some shrines such as Hachiman and Tenjin shrines are harder to categorize in this as they are deified people who people often worship without knowledge of the historical individuals. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 16:09, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Tenjin faith[edit]

The result of the discussion was: Rename to Category:Tenjin (kami) (non-admin closure) * Pppery * it has begun... 00:58, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename per main article Tenjin (kami). Possibly add "worship" per section title "worship". Faith seems wrong, it does not apparently concern a separate faith within Shintoism. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:28, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree Faith (信仰, shinkō) is what WikiProject Japan uses and i think it’s awkward. My preferred translation is cult. Changing this would involve a lot of changes across Wikipedia relating to how we translate shinko. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 15:38, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 03:20, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:SHAREDNAME, these churches don't have anything in common of encyclopedic value. We already have disambiguation pages, e.g. Saint George's Church. If kept, at least rename to "patron saint" without capitals. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:48, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
They aren’t just the names. They are talking about whether the churches have icons or ties to the cults of those saints. Considering many people will go on specific pilgrimages for things like that i think it’s worth it. I do believe though that there has to be some kind of tie other than the name. That’s why i didn’t add all the Saint George churches to the category. Catholicism tends to get rather performative with its Saint cults at times. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 15:46, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, there's maybe a representation of the saint in stained glass, but that just raises WP:OCASSOC. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:25, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that @Peterkingiron: may be confusing Catholic adoration with Catholic veneration; Anglicans frequently make this error in proper worship. Laurel Lodged (talk) 08:39, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Delete (non-admin closure) * Pppery * it has begun... 00:58, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Should be deleted per WP:SMALLCAT. It has one member and no likelihood of growth. The Montreal Royales were a failed independent baseball team which only played half of a season in 2003 and Garvin Alston, the only member of the category, is their only player who was notable enough to warrant an article. Nominator's rationale: Badly named WP:SMALLCAT for just one event. Obviously we can do "Burials at [Cemetery]" categories for large and notable cemeteries that have a lot of notable people buried there -- but firstly, every cemetery on earth does not automatically get one of these the moment there's one murder case whose otherwise non-notable victim happens to be buried there, and secondly, even if there were grounds to keep this it would have to be renamed "Burials at", not "Buried in".
