Missing categories[edit]

Please take care when moving pages between categories. Many of the categories to which you are adding pages do not exist. Per MOS:CATORDER, An article should never be left with a non-existent (redlinked) category on it. Template:CatAutoTOC[edit]

{{CatAutoTOC}} is only for large categories. If we wanted it on all categories of a certain size then we could get a bot to add it. Please stop adding it to categories with less than 100 pages. It does nothing there but uses resources. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:24, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, BrownHairedGirl, I've discover these AutoTOCs just within the past few days, and I feel that replacing the older TOCs is NOT a good idea. I can see where it's handy if a page needs a TOC and doesn't have one. But the non-auto ones can be chosen and tailored to fit a particular page. Actually, on reflection, I want to walk that back a bit. I see no point to a TOC on a category with 200 or fewer items (i.e. a one page category), but apparently there are those who do. And I guess it does no harm (I just think it's a bit silly). This IP user appears to have done hundreds of them--just yesterday! I realphabetize categories, adding or editing sortkeys; I've done dozens of categories, some with thousands of items. Some might wonder if it's really worth the effort. Non-existent categories[edit]

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Club Seven, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. You may find it helpful to use the gadget HotCat, which tests whether a category exists before saving a change.
