Second Annual National Dance Day is July 30

The Second Annual National Dance Day will take place on July 30Mark your calendar—National Dance Day is back! The second annual National Dance Day will take place once again on the last Saturday of July (July 30, 2011). In the near future, three routines will be available right here on Fox.com/Dance so people of all levels can join in on the fun.

“It’s a wonderful way to stay healthy and have fun whilst doing it,” National Dance Day creator and SYTYCD Executive Producer/Judge Nigel Lythgoe said on Thursday’s Top 20 results show.

WHAT: NATIONAL DANCE DAY, a grassroots initiative that encourages the nation, young and old, to move!  Individuals, families, organizations and communities from across the nation come together through their creative expression in dance.  Any style of dance is welcome and imagination is recommended in order to get the most out of this celebratory day.

WHEN: Saturday, July 30

WHY: To continue to generate national awareness for dance, a medium of expression and storytelling which, through shows like So You Think You Can Dance, has proven its value in bringing individuals from all walks of life together through a positive platform that has no boundaries and cultivates imagination and passion. Most importantly, the day is intended to promote health and wellness nationwide.

National Dance Day was recognized by Congress last year. Learn more about the movement brought to Washington, D.C. by Nigel Lythgoe and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC). Share your D-Day ideas in the SYTYCD forums and stay tuned to this site for more information to come.

Facebook pop-up blocking voting for dance pairs on the right-side of the voting panel. Found it was a speed contest to click “vote again” and immediately hit “skip” to get pop-up off the dancers. This could effect the voting tallies for the dancers on the right side of the panel.

I just wanted to say the dance Sasha and Alex danced last night was amazing. I am dealing with the same situation. My boyfriend is stationed in Afghanistan and is coming home in September. The story made me cry thinking of the first time I lay my eyes on him. I just wanted to say they did a really good job. :)

I don’t know if this is the right place to post this, but I’m having a real problem with the technical directing on the show. I hate all the quick camera changes. I want to see the dancing and all the quick camera changes drives me crazy!!!

couldn’t find the right place to put a comment. I feel SO disappointed in Nigel and the judges….that they picked Ricky to stay after her dance for your life, which was about worthless, which they admitted. and then to add insult to injury the boy they picked was because he really put it all out there in dance for your life. You’d better watch what you say or some viewers might think you’re playing some sort of sexual/age favoritism. I mean your words totally proved your inconsistency in judging criteria. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

It is too bad the show is taking such an unfriendly turn towards being family friend… from Lady GaGa videos, to constant use of the words sex, sexy, sensual, pole dancers,PCD(yuck) it has been cancelled from my DVR recordings as I no longer enjoy watching with my children.

Does anyone who participated in last year’s event care to share their methods of organizing a charity event for National Dance day? How do you get recognized?

Julie, you mean Ryan and I totally agree Missy is a much better dancer and she really gave it her all in the dance for your life. Whereas Ryan is just kinda skating by in this competition. Ricky was a great pick, because he really gave it his all in the dance for your life and even though both Wadi and Nick are talented dancers Ricky didn’t hold back and really danced for his life. I feel like with Ryan there’s a lot of favoritism happening with the judges and its not fair to the dancers who are really passionate and who gave it there all. Iveta is an amazing ballroom dancer so much more talented than Ryan and Missy is just an amazing dancer overall she’s so versatile and has a great personality that shows in her dancing.

I can’t believe they kept Ryan! She has the same facial expression in EVERY dance she does. Why is it called ‘dance for your life’ when she clearly did not dance for her life? The judges are all about ‘growing,’ however Ryan does not seem to grow. She has no connection with her partner because she is too busy with smiling at the audience during the whole routine. She needs to give more to the viewers, ESPECIALLY since she did not have the best solo and yet still stayed in the competition. That was very unfair to the other dancers who really gave it their all. And, I agree with Lindsay that Ryan is skating by in the competition. Iveta’s solo blew me away, whereas I was bored during Ryan and Missy’s.

I really thought Iveta should have made it….she really proved she wanted it by her “dance for your life” effort….way more so than Ryan!

I totally agree that Missy was definitely a stronger contender and should have been kept on instead of Ryan.
Moreover, I hate the fact that I won’t get to see that cutie Nick dance anymore. :-(
He was totally amazing in that quickstep routine for a tap dancer and I’m sure if he had stayed on, he would’ve continued to amaze us with more spectacular performances. I’ll miss u nick (sniff!)
