Awards from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)

The University of Oxford is an ESRC-accredited Doctoral Training Centre and part of a national network of 21 centres of excellence in research training recognised by the ESRC.

The ESRC awards for UK students cover university fees as well as a maintenance element to contribute towards living costs. EU students are eligible for fees only awards. Full awards (including university fees and maintenance) in Economics are given to Home, EU or overseas students. A list of departments and courses eligible for ESRC studentships can be found here.

1+3 or 2+2 studentships are four year awards comprising of linked Masters and DPhils (applied for together). +3 studentships are three year awards for students intending to study their doctorate only, having completed an ESRC-accredited Masters programme or equivalent.

The Oxford DTC offers at least 45 studentships per year. Further details can be found here.

Applications for ESRC studentships are made via the relevant department.  The deadline for applications is usually January each year.

Further details, including information on eligibility for awards, can be found in the ESRC's Postgraduate Funding Guide (DTC version).
