One moment Philip Seymour Hoffman is agreeing to a lunch with director Steven Soderbergh. A moment later, a question about a Broadway rumor sends Hoffman dashing off in search of a copy of the day's New York Times.
The actor has just learned that The Times' theater columnist has reported a rumor that Hoffman will star in a showy Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey Into Night," opposite Brian Dennehy, Vanessa Redgrave and Robert Sean Leonard.
As it happens, the speculation is true, but the deal hasn't been finalized. Hoffman reads the column, confirms it doesn't say too much and comes back, slightly less agitated.
