OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — Amazon will be creating 500 new jobs when it opens its newest fulfillment center in Olive Branch, Mississippi.

The company has plans to build a more-than 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Legacy Park, a business park just outside of Olive Branch.

A spokesperson with Amazon says the new location employees will pack and ship large items like sports equipment, patio furniture, fishing rods, pet food, kayaks, and bicycles.

“Mississippi has proven to be a great place for Amazon to do business and gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers in the regions,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s vice president of global customer fulfillment. “We are excited about our growth and remain committed to creating a positive economic impact in the region with job opportunities that have great pay and benefits.”

The full-time positions will start at $15 an hour and will include full medical, vision and dental benefits along with a 401k. Amazon will match employee contributions 50 percent starting on the first day, the company said. They also offer up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave.

There is no time frame for when the fulfillment center will launch. The company is receiving $2 million for public road improvements from the state.

Amazon announced in December it would build a fulfillment center bringing 850 jobs to nearby Marshall County, Mississippi. The company operates a distribution and sortation center in southeast Memphis that employs about 1,500.
