Pelham Glassford

Pelham Davis (Hap) Glassford (1883 - 1959) was active/lived in District Of Columbia, California, New Mexico.  Pelham Glassford is known for Marine painting, drawing and graphic art.

Pelham Davis Glassford was born in 1883 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, son of Col. William Glassford and Allie Seymour Davis. (Col. Glassford was to later have a mountain near Phoenix, Arizona named after him in recognition of his work in the Signal Corp.)  Pelham was brown-eyed, handsome, and reached a height of six feet four inches.  He went to public schools in Washington, DC, and in 1900, enrolled in West Point Academy where he graduated youngest in his class.

In 1907, he married Cora Arthur Carleton, whose father, Guy Carleton, was a Lieutenant Colonel and later General in the Army.  Guy Carleton's father fought in the Texas Revolution.

Pelham returned to West Point as an instructor, and then became an army inspector in the War Department in 1910 until he joined the campaign in Mexico against Pancho Villa.  He also served with General John J.
