After winning a Golden Globe for best actress in a drama, The Crown star Emma Corrin made sure to pay tribute to the woman she plays on-screen: Princess Diana.
Giddy from her win, the 25-year-old star and first-time winner said during her remote acceptance speech last night, "Most of all, thank you so much to Diana. You have taught me compassion and empathy beyond any measure that I can ever imagine." She also noted "everyone who remembers [Diana] so strongly and passionately in our hearts."
The Crown, Netflix's hit drama based on Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family, introduced the late princess in its fourth season, which premiered last fall. Corrin, a relative newcomer, took on the monumental role of bringing a young Diana to life as she falls in and out of love with Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor), becomes part of the royal family, and struggles with life and scrutiny in the spotlight.
"Thank you to my incredible cast and crew for being by my side this entire time," Corrin also said in her speech. She especially shouted out O'Connor: "Thank you to my Prince Charming, Josh. I could not have done this without you. Thank you for making every day by my side a complete joy."
O'Connor also was a winner, taking home the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama, and thanked Corrin in his speech as well. "You're extraordinary, talented, funny, and brilliant at playing rock paper scissors," he said. "I love you to bits."
This is Corrin's only season on The Crown. Elizabeth Debicki will portray the princess in the show's final two seasons.
