Independent Spirit Awards - Black Swan

The Independent Spirit Awards are an annual award given in the name of independent film, featuring plenty of those little indies which deserve the honor and recognition that they won't necessarily be receiving at the Oscars. The 2011 winners were announced tonight, via indieWire and Deadline, at an awards ceremony held in sunny Santa Monica, California on the beach, their classic venue. The big winner was Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, which took home wins for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Cinematography - glad to see it finally getting some deserved recognition! Read on for the complete list of Indie Spirit winners.

You'll notice an [IMDb] link next to each film. This is so you can discover great new films, because there is guaranteed to be at least one film you've never heard of in here. Read on for a complete list of nominees and winners from the 26th Independent Spirit Awards. Winners from each category are designated in BOLD.

For last year's list of nominees and winners, which mostly include Precious taking just about everything as well as Crazy Heart, click right here. Congrats to Exit Through the Gift Shop too - "Mr. Brainwash" was there, acting all crazy. Everyone was expecting these awards to swing towards Winter's Bone, because it's the true indie in the nominees this year, but I'm just as happy to see Black Swan win so many because it deserves them! And it's probably not going to take home anything more than Best Actress tonight, which is sad, but it won some Spirits. A big indie congratulations to all of this year's winners & nominees!
