Toss a coin to your witcher, oh valley of plenty...well, now that song is firmly playing through your head, spare a thought for the poor wandering soul, Jaskier, who’s been tormented by the song for over 8 months. The song recently went viral across social media and could have easily been a number one single for the composer, if they had known it was going to be such a huge success. The Witcher has been out on Netflix for a few weeks now and we’ve all binged watched the entire series and dreamt about Geralt of Rivia, yes, even guys have. However, the cast would have heard this song probably hundreds of times during the filming of the show, and playbacks. And it appears some of them are sick of it.

I'm not a musical theatre or an opera-trained singer, but there is hopefully something that smacks of the Joe Everyman
- Joey Batey

Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier in The Witcher, recently took part in an interview with Men’s Health Magazine and expressed his feelings of despair towards the song. “It's the most annoying thing I've ever heard. It's so catchy” he says. “Everyone's been listening to it for a week or so now, and humming it. I've had that in my head for eight months.”It kind of did some wonders for my heart at the end of everything; I had massive withdrawal symptoms when I wrapped on the show, on Season 1, and it was a wonderful experience to revisit it a couple of months later.”

No doubt he would have had to sing the song over and over again during filming, not to mention recording it in an actual studio which could have taken 100s of attempts as the composers changed the song to fit the show. “I'm not a musical theatre or an opera-trained singer, but there is hopefully something that smacks of the Joe Everyman. The normal guy who sings in the bars and taverns and tells the stories of this wonderful world of the continent.”

The Witcher series, and game, is based on a book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The book series includes The Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, Blood of Elves, The Last Wish, and more. You can buy the books from Amazon with this link.
