Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D Blu-ray (Updated)

   Paramount Home Entertainment will release the 3D version of Transformers: Dark of the Moon on Blu-ray next month. The third installment in director Michael Bay's successful action series follows Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf, Disturbia) as he and the Autobots make a desperate last stand against the evil Decepticons.
Returning cast members from Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen are Tyrese Gibson (Four Brothers), Josh Duhamel (Life as We Know It), and John Turturro (Miller's Crossing), and they are joined by franchise newcomers John Malkovich (Rounders), Frances McDormand (Fargo), and Alan Tudyk (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil).
Update: Paramount's Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/UltraVioletDigital Copy combo pack presents the film in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 with a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

I have yet to see this one, I've watched the previous two films and found them pretty enjoyable. The trailer above looks REALLY good, so I'm confused with all the bashing on this one. Is it all hardcore fanboy heat or what?
My 9 year old nephew is really into Transformers right now and wants me to get the 3D edition so he can watch it when he visits, so I held off for this edition. I'm nervous about this blind buy though. |

Simon, Paramount isn't in this for fanboy service. First and foremost film-making is a business, nobody understands that, they think that to respectfully earn the money we pay them, they must satisfy us all, not gonna happen. What the real deal is they get the movie made, release a trailer, we say we want to see it, pay for a ticket, and THAT is how they earn their money. I think what they have done is perfectly acceptable, and gave us forewarning about double dipping. I'm confident they'll announce features for this edition, they only mentioned two releases of this film (barebones 2d combo and feature-laden 3d combo)
To be honest, I don't mind double-dipping, as long as they announce it like they did with this and with Avatar.
EDIT and Aerodude, it would most likely be 3D movie disc, 2D movie disc, 2D feature disc, DVD/digital copy disc |

nothing could be worse than the 2nd Transformers movie.. but I won't get this, I don't care if it might be the deluxe or whatever that Paramount, which I hope it's not.. I hate 3D and won't support the format and won't pay more than $20, anything more than that is paying for extra crap (3D disc) I'd never watch because I won't ever own a 3D tv or Blu-ray player. |

@guydowood, michael bay has not agreed to TF4. those are rumors at this point and he has even confirmed on his offical site that they are rumors and nothing more. i mean yes, most likely he will end up making another one. i mean who does not love millions of dollars. but none the less it is not official yet.
and the only way i will pick this up is if it has all the special features ive been waiting for. i have no need for the 3d disc or any of the other discs besides the special features since i have the barebones 2d release. |

This movie was much better than the second one but still boring in the first half. Also, Shia Labouf and his so called girlfriend had no chemistry whatsoever and it just wasn't believeable. However the last action filled part of the movie was some of the best CGI I have ever seen. Great action! I don't know if the 3D is of grade quality but will check it out when released. |

I can't speak for others bashing this movie, but I've always been a huge Transformers fan and I love all the movies. I'd say the third was better than the second but not quite as good as the first (although very, very close).
As for the 3D edition, I'm not sure why Paramount hasn't detailed this release already. I thought they would've had it out by Christmas. They will probably lose out on some money here since now the cheaper release is going to be the release parents buy for their kids for Christmas instead of the more expensive one. |

Why are some people absolutely angry about 3D? I personally love it for the right movie or game and can't wait for this title. Yes, companies are trying to make extra money on it but that's what businesses do. I feel that all the options should be released at the same time and for the most part that's the case. I read that it took them extra time to make sure the 3D version was up to spec and you can either believe that or not. Either way the 3D haters could just purchase the 2D version anyway. Also 3D has seemed to make the 2D version only of blue-rays much cheaper. This movie in 2D was about $14 around black Friday. The only people I feel have a true bone to pick are the ones that like special features but don't want 3D. It's true that they have to pay more for something they don't want. Studios should include the special features with the 2D editions as well. |

It totally needs to have two BD's for the movie + supplements. Excluding the 3D disc. Personally I'm not the least bit interested in 3D, but the movie with the extras. 3D is at best a bonus to me.
Either way I need to get this one because I like the movies and I already own the best releases for the previous movies. |

Finally it's going to be out. Glad I waited and didn't buy the stupid barebone theatrical release without special features. I love 3D and the special features so this is definitely worth the wait. |

@djflex40 ...C'mon...you cant tell me that you dont know there is NO difference between Donly True HD and DTS Master HD audio other than turning the volume up a few notches. I am with you though. Dolby True HD need to R.I.P.. It costs more to do and we are the ones that pay for it. Kinda Fucked up isnt it? But whatever...as long as it lossless and NOT LPCM (which is lossless but please)! |

It more than likely won't. Avatar had multiple aspect ratios for its theatrical release (depending on where you saw it - IMAX for example, filled the screen as far as I'm aware). However, Dark Of The Moon was shot in 2.35:1 (or nearest equivalent). I doubt they'll crop the image for the home release. |

yes, I own a Blu-ray player? I just really hate the 3D fad lol I really don't want to pay a lot more for the 3D disc when it's never going to be used. If it's ever the price of a normal Blu-ray release, or less, maybe I'd get it then. |

You just have to wait like everything else to come down in price, the 3D will be no different. Or wait for a sale on them like I do. I picked up Thor 3D yesterday for $15, which is less than the regular blu ray usually. |

@chrishainey: TrueHD has more features and encoding prices are NOT paid for by the consumer. A DTS/PCM version wouldn't be any cheaper.
It's also far more compatible with the vast variety of setups out there, and is far simpler for a chip to decode.
In any case, read the audio reviews for this title and *Super 8* and that's where it counts. There is NO disadvantage except to those who think another codec will make it magically "even better". |

This is the version I waited for. Remember, its not Paramount who said they wanted to wait, it was Micheal Bay wanting the 3D presentation to be perfect. I would rather have a director who takes pride in their product. Paramount wanted Christmas sales, that is why we have the bare bones release. |

@boothill... you need to get back on your meds. I've been around long enough to have experienced the revival of 3D several times. Each time I enjoyed it for a moment. But it always ends up being the same old thing: poking fingers and sticks at the camera. (Oh yes, now they've discovered flying.) And I always give up on it, because ultimately, 3D just really doesn't improve a story. It won't make a bad script good, and it won't make a good script better. But it sure will detract from the story by getting in the way! When I see a 2D version of a 3D movie these days, it's painfully obvious when a sequence is done for 3D. When someone can explain to my how "Citizen Kane" would be made better through the use of 3D, I might reconsider. I agree with @nolfoc... it's a fad... just like it's always been. If you love it, that's cool. But I'd be cautious about tossing your cash around to set up your sweet 3D home entertainment system. |

I don't know if it was disappointment brought on hype or what, but I was underwhelmed by the 3D in this movie. The story was OK. I happen to be one of the folks who actually enjoyed both of the first and enjoyed the chemistry between LeBouf and Fox. That was somethingly missing in this movie. Rosie was just fine, but there just wasn't the chemistry that was there with LeBouf and Fox. I didn't buy the barebones, this might get a purchase from me when discounted. |

Just got my 3D TV this weekend. I have a home theatre,but the basement tv is now an LG 55'' 3D TV. I put in dolphin tale,and it was outstanding in 3D. I am waiting patiently for both Avatar, and now, finally, Transformers. Part 3 is definitely,by far,the best of the 3 films (imho). It was non stop action, more than the first one. There was nothing like the ghastly part 2, with the "action so fast and close you had no idea what the hell was happenning onscreen" thing, or the hideous racist depiction of the 2 black robots,which was distracting beyond belief.
In 3, we have restraint on screen,in full force. The action is presented as easy to read without the blur-vision thing going on, you can actually make out what's taking place onscreen, the 3D was fantastic, i think,personally,the best use since Avatar. (major shout outs though to resident evil/captain america/etc whose 3D rocked also). And a lot of people hate on Bay's flicks, with a certain degree of reason, but if you like a sci-fi action flick with cool effects, there aint much better than the 3D version of this film. Absolute must-buy if you have a 3D TV, you wont regret it. |

I'm not into 3D myself, but this is good news for those who are. If 3D helps propel the (Though I'll always prefer 2D movie watching) BD format to new heights, Then thats a good thing. I'll be buying this release with my $10 coupon primary for the special features. But if I ever do decide to get a 3D TV, then at lease I'll already have a near reference quality 3D disc.... |

My mother is dead, nolfoc. She died of brain cancer last month. Also, my apology to you, sir. I over-reacted a bit about the whole "3D bashing" thing. I have removed my posts concerning the issue.
In a calmer tone, let me say that I understand that some people prefer 3D over 2D and vice versa, but it seems to make no sense how every thread about 3D releases contains a plethora of people complaining about 3D and bashing it to no end. I just don't see how that can come across as being persistently necessary. I don't even own a 3D set-up yet, but the perpetual slamming of it just seems to be way too far over the top. That's all.

I wonder, of the people that complain about 3D not adding anything to the story, how many of those people listen to the audio through the TV speakers. Surround sound adds nothing to the story, yet the vast majority of the people that complain about 3D still have surround sound systems. Surround sound is a gimmick as well. Movies in general are gimmicks. If someone wants 3D, let them be. If you don't like 3D, who cares. You come across as a whinny baby. |

Is the Linkin Park "Iridescent" Music video included in there somewhere. I hope so, they wait has been long enough they should have as much as they can on this. Is should be since "New Divide" was on Revenge of the Fallen disc, but I guess that was specifically for the soundtrack and �Iridescent� was from their current album. I hope the there is a featurette on the score or something, I see that "Sounds of Dark of the Moon: but that could be about anything. Too bad there is no isolated score. Movies that deserve those hardly ever seem to get them, Hans Zimmer and Steve Jablonsky should always get isolated scores. I love the Matrix of Marketing, hope all the trailers and a few tv spots are included as well as some posters, and how about some deleted scenes, I want to see what it looks like when Bumblebee gets hit but that cop, like it would have looked in the movie. |

Fans of special features will finally have their due... and not a moment too soon. I'm a huge bonus fan and I always enjoyed both Transformers for their back stories and how the movies were made (sometimes, the making-of features are even better than the movie itself, go figure). There may not be a 2D only set with the features, but it'll at least give me a good reason to consider upgrading my HD set... |
