November 9, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the advent of freedom and democracy in Eastern Europe as we know it today.“General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Here, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, we celebrate this anniversary and pay tribute to Ronald Reagan, whose role in this historic event was truly heroic. Today, countless people around the world enjoy greater freedom, more economic prosperity, and better lives as a result of his leadership.
